EU representative for South Caucasus reports on meetings in Tskhinvali and Tbilisi
Meetings with representatives of South Ossetia and Georgia were held by the Co-Chairs of the Geneva Discussions from the OSCE and the United Nations. This was written on February 12 by the EU Special Representative for the Crisis in the South Caucasus, Toivo Claara, on his Twitter page. Two-day meetings in Tbilisi and Tskhinvali with OSCE and UN Co-Chairs have come to an end. Important negotiations took place on the closure of the crossing points on the administrative dividing line of South Ossetia, Klara wrote. He added that he writes a message already being in Azerbaijan. Recall, in August on the Georgian-South Ossetian border the conflict began to escalate after Tbilisi in August 2019 on the territory of South Ossetia put a checkpoint in the area of the village of Uista (Tsnelis). Having not achieved the dismantling of the post, Tskhinval decided as security measures to close the border crossing points in the area. After that, representatives of the Georgian authorities began to claim that a humanitarian disaster had begun in the border areas of South Ossetia because local residents could not enter Georgia.
