Moscow does not plan to host a new conference on Libya - Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation

Moscow does not plan to host a new international conference on Libya, as a peaceful settlement in the Middle East depends not on the number of such events, but on the quality of the measures taken at them. This was announced on February 23 by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov in an interview with the Greek publication To Vima. We do not plan to convene a new conference on Libya. There were already plenty of them in various capitals. I believe that the progress of the Libyan settlement depends not on the number of international conferences on this topic, but on the quality of implementation of the decisions taken at them, the diplomat answered the journalist's question about the possibility of inviting Greece to the conference in Russia. However, Bogdanov stressed that the Greek side has every right to participate in such international events, as Greece is directly affected by the Libyan crisis. According to the news agency, the International Conference on the Settlement of the Libyan Conflict, which has been ongoing since 2011, was held in Berlin on 19 January. The event was attended by leaders of about 10 countries, as well as participants of the Libyan confrontation. At the summit, the participants adopted a final communiqué calling on the parties to the Libyan conflict to a ceasefire and military movements throughout the country. In addition, the countries of the conference noted the primacy of the United Nations in resolving and stabilizing the situation in Libya.
