Political prisoner Paletskis in Lithuania transferred to house arrest
The Court of Appeal of Lithuania today, on April 6, reversed the decision of the Shjauliai Court to extend the arrest of Lithuanian political prisoner Algirdas Paletskis for another two months. This is said in the decision of the court, the correspondent news agency reports. The measure of detention has been changed to house arrest, it has been decided to release Paletskis on bail of 50,000 euros, he will have to be at home and wear an electronic bracelet, which confirms his location. In addition, Paletskis 'documents were seized. Earlier, a group of Lithuanian signatories to the Act of Independence had made an open appeal to release Paletskis under house arrest. At the same time, the argument was not so much an indication of the illegal actions of Lithuanian justice, which held Paletskis in prison for more than a year and a half without charge, but fears that Paletskis would subsequently file and win a case with the ECHR for Lithuania's illegal actions against him. As previously reported by the news agency, the Lithuanian Prosecutor General's Office completed the pre-trial investigation and brought charges against Paletskis to court. The Lithuanian Prosecutor's Office has formulated the charge since autumn 2018. All this time Algirdas Paletskis is in Lithuanian prison. He himself, in his rare letters from the report, claims that he is thus being tried to break and obtain confessions that he never gave. Paleckis denies all charges.
