Convicted in Austria for spying for the Russian Federation ex-military released

The retired military Armed Forces of Austria, convicted of espionage activities in favor of the Russian Federation, was paroled by the Salzburg Land Court, the sentence entered into force on June 15. This was announced on June 15 by the representative of the court Peter Egger, RIA Novosti quoted him as saying. Within the three-day period established by law, the Salzburg Land Court did not receive an appeal (from the country's prosecutor's office ed.) Against the verdict of June 9, 2020, the representative said and noted that in this regard the sentence of parole of the Austrian ex-military entered into force. Recall, as reported by the news agency, on June 9, a jury found the retired colonel of the Austrian Armed Forces, 71-year-old Martin M., guilty of divulging state secrets, secret intelligence activities to the detriment of the country and intentionally divulging military secrets, and sentenced him to three years in prison. At the same time, according to the court decision, the term in the pre-trial detention center, which the convict has already served, is also taken into account as the term of imprisonment. If the sentence enters into force, this means that the convict, after serving half the term of imprisonment, can be released on parole.
