Until 2027, Latvia will lose 7% of the able-bodied population


The Ministry of Economy of Latvia predicts 11% unemployment by the end of 2020, and a slow recovery to pre-crisis indicators in 2022 or 2023, the portal lsm.lv writes. In 2021, the situation in the labor market will begin to improve. The ministry expects an increase in jobs by 4.2%, and a decrease in unemployment during the year to 8.1%. In the long term, due to the demographic situation, until 2027 Latvia will lose 7% of the able-bodied population aged 15 to 64 years. We're talking about 90,000 people. By 2040, the total population of Latvia will decrease by 122,000 people, and by 2040 the population of the country will be 1.79 million, compared to 1.9 million now.
