In the UK, began the construction of a road made of recycled plastic
In the city of Carlisle, the first motorway in the UK, built using recycled plastic, will be laid. It is reported by the portal Business Green. Asphalt made using the new technology will be used to replace pavement on several roads in the center of Carlisle. It is noted that the company MacRebur has already begun laying asphalt. Plastic obtained from the processing of bags and other waste will improve the resistance of the pavement to compression and expansion caused by weather changes. This should extend the life of the asphalt, slowing the occurrence of cracks and other coating defects. MacRebur CEO Toby McCartney explained that recycled plastic will also reduce the amount of bitumen used, which produces a large amount of carbon dioxide. He added that the widespread introduction of this technology will significantly reduce the amount of carbon emissions from the construction of roads. As previously reported by the news agency, in 2019 in Moscow laid 18 thousand tram sleepers made of recycled plastic.
